Really Unsettling

The creepiest thing ever from the practice of law. I spent the better part of yesterday negotiating with the agent of a director we want to use for a show. She was sick and at the hospital (wouldn't say why), but she insisted on getting the deal negotiated and closed. We hammered out the terms until 8:00 last night and I e-mailed her the final version of the contract, which apparently her husband printed out and reviewed with her.

I just found out she died at midnight.

Yeah, I wonder if she died wishing she had spent more time smelling the roses.

What strikes me is the fact this person likely knew they were in trouble, yet the most important thing was to negotiate a deal?

There'd be a lot of other things I'd be worried about if I even thought this might be my last day on earth.

God- that's really, really disturbing. I think there are some lawyers at my firm that would do the same in the circumstances. This woman was an agent, not a lawyer? My husband is an ex-agent and has horror stories to tell about that world.
Jesus. I guess my refusal to make my job such a priority might cost me success in the lawfirm world, but with success like that, who needs failure?

You gotta look at the other side ... maybe hammering out this deal with II was what kept her going, feeling normal, or focusing on something other than pain or mortality for even just a few extra hours. I just think that we should hope she went without regret.

I think that our society is told to worship the "work ethic" because your work ethic serves the Boss, not the employee.

As the man said - You are a Cog.

That's pretty creepy; was there money involved for her family, which maybe explains it?

Apparently, she went in for an experimental cancer treatment she had received before, so no one expected it to happen. I guess her body couldn't take it and she had major organ failure.
