Por Mois?

Newspapers and faux news programs have been priming We the People for the annual day of worship of war and warriors. The heroic stories, the tragedies, the mundane. They collide into a convenient, well-scripted narrative finding equal only in religion. Heroes, uniforms, pageantry and all the accoutrements that rival the Pope's appearance in St. Mark's Square.

Among the faithful, this show of force renews their fervor, inspiring them to return to obedience and "faith" not only in its doctrine, but in those who claim to be the stewards of that doctrine. With this renewal, unfortunately, comes the virulent disdain for those who do not share the "faith".

We will hear about the troops who "died for our freedom" and be admonished to get on our knees and kiss their feet to express our eternal gratitude. They will be enshrined in the American cultural equivalent of sainthood.

"He died for your freedom". "He died for your sins".

An eternal debt, payable only in obedience and guilt, but that can never be paid in full.

The consequence of the epistomology of religion is the politics of tyranny. If you cannot reach the truth by your own mental powers, but must offer obedient faith to a cognitive authority, then you are not your own intellectual master; in such a case, you cannot guide your own behavior by your own judgment, either, but must be submissive in action as well. This is the reason why...faith and force are always corollaries; each requires the other.

Here is one of two real reasons we are in Iraq.
Oil.
Simple. They died for something, and it is oil.
Here is a future scenario that I see, and when I say future, I mean shortly.
As I consider the affects of hi-bred cars, some interesting possibilities come to mind.
The more of those types of cars , trucks, cabs and buss`s sold, the less gasoline used. Now that sounds good on the surface to the average " dingus erectus " BUT...
That will cause the collection of taxes on gas to decline in direct proportion to consumption.
Gas taxes are used to build and maintain roads.
That tax problem will cause the state and federal governments to have to find new tax revenue to replace the losses. Either by increasing gas tax, or inventing new taxes, fees or how ever they want to word it.
The petroleum companies will increasingly have to raise the price to maintain the profit margins they have at present. Not raising prices will cause a decreased profit and the stocks will decline into a death spiral. All this increase in taxes and pricing will totally negate any advantage of the hi-bred and high mileage vehicles.
Then there is the increased cost of EVERY commodity and service in the country. It is all tied together. The price system is getting ever closer to a fatal burn out.
I can't see any connection to the fact that the petroleum companies have, for about 35 years, not built any new refineries. The supply of crude oil is ever falling into the non recoverable side of the curve. More refining facilities will not help, we are in a permanent shortage of fossil fuel for internal combustion engines.
It is an economic cancer the price system can't fix. Just one more price system cancer that has started to invade the lymphatic system.
The introduction of less consumption to any part of a price system is a kiss of death.
-- So, we are trying to beat this dead horse by 'stealing' more oil, and trying to control the political template of that area.
We have 'used' our military force as a mercenary force for Globalism/Corporations, Special Interests of money people and Special Interests of Belief System groups. We do not 'need' the oil anyway, as alternatives are available, but Special Interests control our Government (democracy), and those interests control Globalism.
The troops are brainwashed. They are pawns.
- They are dieing for a simple philosophy, the one that guides our Price System.
'Every thing for me, and nothing for you.'

I happened to have a neighborhood barbeque yesterday, and my wife and I were surrounded by the God, Guns, Freedom is not free crowd.

A sobering experience. Here I have a bunch of highly educated people that live life according to the following motto:

"Conservative good, Liberal bad".

I tried to open that can of worms with no luck yesterday. Ah well. Reason falls of deaf ears in my neck of the woods. It's easier to deal with fantasy than reality.

The point about it only being able to be paid back in obedience and guilt is the best shet I've read in weeks. Wow.

"Died for your sins . . . " Don't hurt, em!!

Great quote.

And true. The conflation of this war with "defending our freedoms" is so pervasive, yet so obscene that I simply cannot understand why most in our society aren't yelling for the madness to stop.

I guess it goes with the consequences of the quote: many in our society value 'belief' over rationality and hence genuflect at the alter of tyranny.

Actually when you look at the history of American military actions, very little of it had to do with defending our "freedom" even in an indirect way. Our involvement in the two world wars may have been a good thing but for the most part our troops have been wasted on all kinds of foolishness and the more we continue this grotesque war dance, the longer the misuse will go on.

One of your very best posts, by the way. Brava.
