My friends are tired of me bemoaning the lack of creativity in hollywood.
But there have been a few winners lately: Little Miss Sunshine (original and very entertaining story), Juno, etc.
The problem is most people simply want explosions, sex or a combination of the two for entertainment.

I worked in Hollywood for years. Rest assured, creativity is rejected daily in favor of uniformity in the cultural message.
