TV News is detrimental to intelligence. On the rare occasion I watch it, I feel like my intelligence is being insulted with no shame or regard to whether the nonsense, paranoia, half-truths and assorted drivel are even credible.
I get my news from the Daily Show and BBC's web site. Oh, and I get a weekly magazine called "The Week" that's pretty good.
As they say, freedom of the press is only free if you own the press. Advertisers have an awful lot of input over what gets reported... That's why the Internet is so valuable at this point.
This is why countries that can get away with censoring the internet do it.
The Blog is mightier than the bullshit.
The MSM News is nothing but "selective sensationalism" with the people who "profess" to have no opinion/agenda deciding what is presented.
Everyone has bias and it cannot be helped to be observed in almost all we do.
For the MSM to say that they are "neutral" is the height of hypocrisy.
There are one group of people in the world who are interested in changing the world by starting with one person at a time, (themselves), and there is another group in the world who are interested in changing the world by changing others in bunches through socail enginering.
The group that wants to change the world by changing others appear to me to be the same group that controls our MSM.
It is much easier to be a happy person if we just try to change the world one person at a time as that is a reachable goal.
The other group that wants to change the world by changing society are the more frustrated and sad group.
Like Capt. fogg, I am grateful to the Internet and Blogs.
:)
FAR.
Hey FAR,
I am not going to ask to which groups you are referring, because I have a pretty good idea. It's nice to have you back. You've been MIA for too long.
I get my news from the internet -- I can't remember the last time I watched a TV newscast.
FAR - Funny you should talk about the MSM trying to change "society" ... I seem to continually run into another group (who decry the MSM) always trying to tell me how to live my life: i.e. - who I can marry, who I can have sex with, why I should worry about other people's sex-lives (e.g. - public officials, etc), why I can't adopt, etc. etc: All without any objective data.
The MSM may be liberally biased in the sense they criticize and always look for the evil-ulterior motive, but the conservative press and blog-o-sphere are always pushing their morals on the rest of us -- and playing the 'patriot' card if we criticize thier policies..
Hello All,
Reason on this:
While you gain your news exclusively from the internet, are you paying for it? Is it without banners, pop ups? Chris, the daily show's web site has "payin' the bills" on the front page for example.
All news is a vheicle for advertising dollar revenue. To believe anything else is to decieve yourself. From Pulitizer to Murdoch, one thing is consistent: audience is a tool to make ad dollars.
Koppel just admitted what everyone should already see is self evident.

Local news and weather from TV, National news and International news from multiple sources from the Internet.
For grins I will occasionally watch "Face the Nation" or even Faux to see the latest contortionist spin moves.
ROR,
There are many people like myself who "suggest" what is right and wrong and if you want to call that "telling you how to live", then so be it.
People who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones, but they sure shouldn't sit by and not speak up about "actions" that people do that harm society either.
Speak out against things that people do and you will be on the money.
I can critisize "robbery" without pointing at a theif and making it personal. Get it?
I hope we never become to P.C. to not say what "acts" that people do that are wrong.
"Condem the sin, not the sinner."

My local paper loves me, but they don't print some of the editorials I write, because they have to pay the bills through advertising, and I completely understand that.
In an ideal world media outlets wouldn't have to worry about that; but this is far from an ideal world.
I never implied that internet news isn't 'biases' -- but by reading news from multiple sources -- and from different countries -- you can get different perspectives on the issue.
As for "sin" -- one mans sin is another mans virtue. My argument has nothing to do with ‘thieves’ or other behaviors that obviously infringe on the rights of others. My point is about the religious-right who try to use government (they have the right to use the media to promote their point of view) to impose their version of morality on the rest of us – via force of law.
I thought I lived in a “free” country founded on the premise that I’m free to pursue happiness as long as my actions don’t tread on the rights of others – that’s obviously not the goal of those who push a religious-based agenda for government.
