Depends On The Definition Of "Mission"

Ever since Bush boldly declared the mission accomplished,
  • Gasoline prices in the U.S. rose to over $3 per gallon.
  • Gasoline prices in the U.K. reached north of $6 per gallon.
  • First quarter 2006 Exxon profits were $8.4 billion.
  • First quarter 2006 ConocoPhillips profits were $3.29 billion.
  • Energy companies have been given billions in welfare.
  • Over 2,400 American soldiers have died.
  • Tens of thousands of Iraqis have been slaughtered.
  • The price of gold soared from $340 per troy ounce to $660 per troy ounce.
  • The value of the dollar has fallen to new lows against the Euro, Yen and Canadian dollar.
  • American bankruptcy laws were "reformed" to prevent soldiers from obtaining bankruptcy relief related to debts incurred as a result of their military service.
  • The percentage of working-age Americans with moderate incomes who lacked health insurance for at least part of the year rose to 41 percent in 2005, a dramatic increase from the 28 percent in the same category in 2001.
  • The Iraqi resistance is still fighting, with no end in sight.

In a presidential debate with Al Gore on October 11, 2000, in Winston-Salem, NC, Bush said: "I don’t think our troops ought to be used for what’s called nation-building…I think what we need to do is convince people who live in the lands they live in to build the nations. Maybe I’m missing something here. I mean, we’re going to have a kind of nation-building corps from America? Absolutely not."

Nope, America's troops should not be used to spread democracy. They should be used to enrich oil executives. Mission Accomplished!

The 1st panacea of a mismanaged nation is inflation of the currency; the 2nd is war. Both bring a temporary prosperity; a permanent ruin.

Gold was at $6.70 last time I looked.

The amazing thing is not that he's screwed up the country worse than any President since perhaps Buchanan, the amizing thing is that some 32 or 33% still support him. That's too big a number to include the robber barons who benefit from his patronage.

Who are these people?

What amazes me, to follow up on Cpt. Fogg, is that though he's down to 32%, I'm STILL afraid to talk politics here in Northwest Iowa. I've lost a LOT of friends, and strained even more friendships by stating my views towards Mr. Bush, et. al.

Those people are getting what they deserve. Fewer job opportunities, stolen pensions, dead children in Iraq. They are like battered wives who convince themselves that the situation is fantastic.

Of the 42 elected Presidents, and George Bush, historians consider our boy king the worst. Over two centuries of independence and democratic government have finally found their nadir. Here's an article worth a read.

These are the same guys who were claiming DeLay was a great guy not too long ago. In many respects, I believe a portion of the mission was definitely accomplished.

That is to make a select few, very, very rich.

Aren't they still claiming DeLay is a great guy? The true loyalists have not been disabused of that nonsense. And you are right that the mission to enrich the elite has definitely been accomplished.

Chris - I hear you.

It’s disheartening to realize that 32% of the populace has essentially no sense: they'll stay with a sinking ship no matter what.

The founders established this nation with the premise that an informed citizenry would keep the powers of government in check. But with 30% or so of the populace essentially raving idiots you only need to fool another 21% to have your way...

Between the idiots and the gullible the future doesn't look so bright.

In a world where people can deny the Holocaust happened, is it any wonder that people can support a woefully dismal president?

If people WANT to believe something, then no amount of truth is going to change thier mind.

Soooooo, with your list of oil woes, are you still part of the "we invaded Iraq for oil" bunch? Kind of shooting yourself in the foot if you are.

I'd love to have the ability to criticize my commander in chief, but alas, being active duty military, it is literally against the law for me to do so. Please don't mistake that for the "Bush is God" mantra.
